Conflict Exploration and Transformation: Theater of the Oppressed & Creative Practices for Movement Building
Conflict is inevitable in movement work, but what if we approached it not as something to avoid or fear but as an opportunity to learn, grow, and build more just futures together? This workshop explores Theater of the Oppressed (TO) and other creative, embodied practices, such as storytelling, as tools for navigating conflict with accountability, care, creativity, and a commitment to collective transformation.
Through interactive exercises, we will:
Reframe conflict as an opportunity for deeper understanding and movement-building.
Explore Theater of the Oppressed techniques to act out and problem-solve real tensions in our organizing spaces.
Engage in creative practices that help us embody accountability, practice relational repair, and imagine alternative ways of struggling together.
Reflect on the ways dominant systems teach us to dispose of one another and how we can resist this by committing to unlearning, struggling together, and fostering deep relationships.
This space is for activists, organizers, educators, and students who want to strengthen their ability to navigate internal tensions without resorting to disposability or cancellation. Instead, we will explore how to move through conflict with honesty, care, and a shared investment in justice.
