Virtual Workshop: Cultivating Spaciousness in the Cracks

Are you a spaceholder, organizer, educator, worldbuilder, and or community maker trying to figure out how to respond and engage with our current context in a way that centers care, community, and agency?

Join us on July 30th, 12-1:30pm Central Time. This workshop offering is part of a collaboration between Chel Viteri and Zia Kandler from Mazorca Facilitation, and Stephanie Knox Steiner from University for Peace.

In the context of intersecting collective crises where many of our communities are under attack, this workshop offers a space to breathe, be together, hold and witness one another, and strategize ways of building worlds otherwise through mapping out our agency. Together we’ll explore how to create a sense of rootedness and spaciousness within ourselves and with each other- spheres in which we always have influence- and from that rootedness, discern pathways of action to cultivate spaces of care and resistance within the cracks of our fractured systems.

Drawing inspiration from Catherine Walsh’s proposal of building alternatives in the cracks, adrienne maree brown’s emergent strategy principle of fractals, and the wisdom of nature, we will reflect on how to exercise our agency in creating more life-affirming alternatives despite growing precarity. We will identify the spaces in our day-to-day lives that offer opportunities for relating and building otherwise. We will explore agency as a more-than-human matter by disrupting individualistic notions of action put forth by dominant narratives, and explore what agency looks like on different scales - inner, interpersonal, interspecies, and beyond.
